More bird ringing
Jim and the bird ringing gang (Tim and Tania on this occasion) arrived at 7am for an early morning start unfortunately the weather was too good. All this blue sky and hot sun meant that the birds were all full of the joys of spring and had other things on their minds besides getting caught in a mist net and were too busy singing, showing off and checking out nesting sites.
They still managed to catch and ring a few birds including a greenfinch which was our first of the year. The reason why there is so few greenfinch is due to Trichomonosis a bird disease which I will write more about soon.If you meet Tim and Tania and want to know more about it, its probably best to ask Tania because Tim can only pronounce the word about 50% of the time.
Today’s ringing count:
1 Greenfinch
5 Blue Tit
7 Great Tit + 1 retrap
1 Coal Tit
4 Chaffinch
2 Nuthatch retraps.
